The two tubes FGH and F'GH' were cut from the same accurately cylindrical piece of tubing and have exactly the same shape ; they are fixed as alike as possible in the tubulures. One of the bulbs is filled with dry air and the other with the gas whose expansibility it is desired to compare with that of air. Moreover, the bulbs are fast- ened in the same tin vessel.
