♦Trajan's Cotumn in Trajan's Foram ; erected a.d. 114, f ^^ by the Senate, in iionor of the successful campaigns of the Em- 1 ^ peror. It consists of 84 blocks of marble, covered with a series I of bas-reliefs winding about the shaft from base to capital. The { number of figures is not less than 2,500, not including the horses and cattle, two feet in height in the lower courses, increasing to 4 ft. at the summit.
