One day in mid-winter, when the snow was lying thick upon the ground, a crazy woman came in at the gate, up the walk, and on to the veranda. Then she stopped, took a broom which stood beside the door, and for the space of half an hour, or what seemed like it, vigorously swept her overshoes. But my visitor took off her bonnet and sat down, and we— conversed. She said she had come to town on purpose to see the doctor, and, after she had left his office, just concluded to give his wife a call, too.
