The larger number are octavo, many are quarto, and a few folio, requiring their separation for convenient arrangement in different cases or at least on different shelves. It is con- fusing, when one looks for a particular report of a certain Congress, to find a break in the continuity of numbers, as it may not be remembered whether the volume is wanting, or is placed elsewhere on account of its size.
