What reading level is Transactions book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

If the V® term is very great, so as to require for its transformation into a V^ term more than the V^ term, it will absorb part of the V^*®^^ term, and we shall find that f^ is smaller than the normal value of /. This may, therefore, be expected to be the case where the diverging waves are very prominent.
