The social responsibility scale (Berkowitz and Lutterman, 1968) was comprised of an eight-question scale (Appendix A, Ques. 48-54). The authoritarian scale (Schuman and Harding, 1962) was a forced choice F-scale (Appendix A, Ques. 55-64).
It should be noted that this forced choice format reduces the validity of the scale as a measure of unconscious person- ality trends as it encourages conscious reflection on the questions. The brevity of the
