Pola Bay, open to the northeast, is clear of dangers; the depth at the mouth is 35 fathoms, lessening to 9 fathoms at 600 yards from the beach at the head of the bay. Anahanan Point, the northw...est entrance point, is fringed with a reef to a distance of ^ mile from it, with 2^ to 5 fathoms at its edge. The head of the bay is a sandy beach 2 miles long, between two rivers. Fresh water can be obtained from the eastern river.
The village of Pola is situated on the left bank of the western river.
Anchorage may be found in 14 fathoms, muddy bottom, on the following bearings: Church S. 50° W. (S. 49° W. mag.), large rock N. 77° W.
